I have joined online lecture hosted by GMU and Hokkaido University and have received copy of the material, “Low-Carbon Society-Realistic approach” lately and I want to share some of this with you. It was very interesting lecture. Mr.Tony, the lecturer, had helped us to open our perceptions wider about realistic approach in slowing down carbon emission. He presented such a complete data for every fact and he delivered it in very fun way without diminishing the profound ideas.

Mr.Tony started his lecture explained the long term carbon cycle which came to the bottom line that the state is natural progress. The carbon concentration should be in normal scale. BUT raising carbon (and other green house gases) concentration today happened because exploitation over living resources by human. And as we know the worse part is The raising may trigger catastrophic CLIMATE CHANGE.

And let’s take a look at this picture below where we can figure that almost more than 59% we use ‘dirty’ energy resources.

So, our challenge is how to provide global energy services that produce low carbon (it said 15 billion tons of CO2 per year).

By the way, since this isn’t all about Mr.Tony lecture time (this isn’t his blog either), so I’m going to present the next idea in brief as possible as I can then we can step up to my own idea ^^

And here several models offered in order to reduce CO2 emission:
Slide3

CCS (Carbon Capture Sequestration) is commonly use in Industrial application as it can covers large point of sources. Canada, Italy, Norway, USA, Polan, Netherland, Australia, China, and UK have been holding CCS project.

And the realistic approach Mr.Tony focused on were using renewable energy ( and low-carbon emission) resources  like Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Biofuels, Hydro, Ocean wave and Nuclear; And  Improving energy efficiency (energy conservation) using new technology like CFL (Compact Fluorecent Light) and Green Buldings absolutely agree with what Mr.Tony had elaborated above, all the shifting energy stuffs and conservation stuffs, they are theoretically prospective and capable to meet our energy needs and of course low carbon emission.

Yet, I think those prospective models need another “strenghten” little idea and put them together in implementation.

In my view, slowing down carbon emission is not merely making breakthrough scientifically but also about shifting “what we want” idea to “what we need”  idea. The breakthrough and the idea should be running in synergist.

We shift   “I want to watch TV until I fall as sleep” to “I don't watch TV while I sleep so It should be turned off”We shift “I want to buy that shoes, I think the design is lovely, I don’t have it yet” to “I think I need to buy that shoes as the old had already broke”. We shift “I don’t feel snug without turning on the bulb even in daylight” into “I need to turn off the bulb in daylight because it's already bright”.

Yea! It’s about our attitude!. We, human, never recognize the limit of desire. "Need" is a mean to limit it. Consumptive habit is a manifest of our disrespectful attitude to our environment (human kind and our mother earth) also is a picture how disconnected we are from them.

So, let's switch on our connection start by doing little thing for major positive change ^^.
